John Irvin, Director of 'Hamburger Hill' and 'Raw Deal,' Dies at 86

British filmmaker John Irvin died on 11 August 2026 aged 86, his producers confirmed to Deadline. Across four decades he directed more than thirty features, including the 1987 Vietnam war film 'Hamburger Hill' and the Arnold Schwarzenegger thriller 'Raw Deal' (1986). He also directed the BAFTA-winning BBC series 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.' He was a multi-BAFTA nominee.
