Oscars to leave broadcast television for YouTube in 2029

The Oscars will leave ABC and air on YouTube starting in 2029, Academy president Lynette Howell Taylor told roughly 11,000 members at an all-members virtual meeting in August 2026. Howell Taylor said the move could put the ceremony in front of up to 2 billion people worldwide. No further terms of the YouTube arrangement were disclosed. (Variety, 18 August 2026)
