Stranger Things season five: expanded VFX budget, but Duffer brothers built it for real

The Duffer brothers called Stranger Things' final season a "mega movie" and expanded the VFX budget, VFX supervisor Betsy Paterson told The Hollywood Reporter. Yet the team built physical Upside Down sets and used real goo in Hawkins Lab scenes, enhancing them digitally afterwards. Paterson said the Duffers want sets to feel "as tactile as possible."
