1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe sells for US$42.9 million, most expensive American car at auction

A 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe sold for US$42.9 million including fees at Gooding Christie's on 14 August during Monterey Car Week in California, against a US$25 million estimate. The third of six built, it belonged to designer Carroll Shelby and raced at the Nürburgring in 1965. The previous American-car record was US$22 million, set in 2018. Artnet News reported the sale.
