Patrick Vieira appointed Senegal head coach — a son of Dakar returns home

Patrick Vieira, born in Dakar before moving to France as a child, has been appointed head coach of Senegal, the federation confirmed on 18 August 2026. He replaces Pape Thiaw, dismissed after Senegal's World Cup last-32 exit against Belgium. Vieira won the 1998 World Cup, Euro 2000 and three Premier League titles with Arsenal.
