Deus Ex creator Spector retires, says industry makes his remaining game ideas unfeasible

Warren Spector announced his retirement from game development on LinkedIn on 18 August 2026, citing age, health, and a changed industry. Nearly 44 years in, with 17 games shipped, he said he has three more ideas he would like to make but implied they are no longer feasible given the state of the business. His final game, Thick As Thieves, released in May 2026.
