Cornflakes on the Basquiat: Maezawa's damaged US$110.5m painting sold to Ken Griffin for US$200m
Japanese collector Yusaku Maezawa paid US$110.5 million for an untitled 1982 Basquiat at Sotheby's in 2017. His children threw cornflakes at it on one of his yachts; crew wiping them worsened the damage. Conservator Pandora Mather-Lees was called in. Maezawa later sold the work to billionaire Ken Griffin for US$200 million, Artnet columnist Kenny Schachter reported.
