Estate withdrawal triggers lawsuit over first-time buyers' Sjöö purchase at Alison Jacques gallery

Yoed and Natasha Anise sued London's Alison Jacques gallery after the estate of Monica Sjöö — who died in 2005 — cancelled a sale the couple had already agreed. The Art Newspaper reported the Sjöö paintings were their first-ever art purchase. Estates consigning works to galleries can retain authority to withdraw individual pieces even after a price is agreed, a risk unfamiliar to first-time collectors.
