Four Antonello da Messina panels stolen from Sicily's MuMe museum

Thieves bypassed alarms and broke into a display case at the MuMe regional museum in Messina, Sicily, on 15 August 2026, stealing four painted wood panels attributed to Renaissance master Antonello da Messina. The panels belong to the San Gregorio Polyptych, a five-panel altarpiece. The Associated Press reports the works are worth millions of euros. Italian prosecutors are investigating possible inside help.
