MPA and ByteDance sign IP protection deal covering Seedance and Seedream AI generators

The MPA and ByteDance signed a memorandum of understanding on 17 August 2026 to protect film and TV IP across ByteDance AI products including the Seedance video generator and Seedream image generator, Variety reports. Six months earlier the MPA accused ByteDance of flouting copyright law "on a massive scale" after Seedance 2.0 users generated riffs on actors including Brad Pitt. The generators run through TikTok, CapCut and Dreamina.
