HBO's 'Lanterns' premiere kills off Hal Jordan in flash-forward twist

HBO's DC series Lanterns premiered 17 August 2026, opening in 2016 before flashing forward a decade to reveal Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) is dead and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) is no longer a Green Lantern. The twist sets up dual murder mysteries across two timelines. Co-created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King. New episodes air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max.
