Donnelly wins first British women's European marathon medal with bronze in Birmingham

Abbie Donnelly took marathon bronze at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, clocking 2:27:33 on a hilly course with an uphill finish. No British woman had previously stood on a European Championships marathon podium. The 29-year-old Lincoln Wellington AC athlete, coached by Rob Lewis, finished 12 seconds behind Hungary's Vindics-Toth and held off Nóra Szabó.
