Almgren breaks oldest European Championships distance record with 10,000m gold in Birmingham

Sweden's Andreas Almgren won the men's 10,000m at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham on 15 August, clocking 27:23.44 to break the longest-standing championship record on the books. His run came a day before both marathon finals also produced championship records, bringing three distance marks down across the closing weekend.
