Liechtenstein adopts absolute primogeniture, ending male-only throne succession

On 15 August 2026, the Princely House of Liechtenstein revised its house laws — the internal rules governing the dynasty — to adopt absolute primogeniture, determining succession by birth order alone. The change, approved by a two-thirds majority of eligible dynastic voters, takes effect immediately and is not retroactive. Princesses born before the change cannot overtake younger brothers.
