O'Connor 51 points clear with one event left in European heptathlon

Kate O'Connor leads the heptathlon at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham on 5,812 points, 51 ahead of the Netherlands' Emma Oosterwegel (5,761) with only the 800m remaining. The 25-year-old from Newry overhauled overnight leader Adrianna Sulek-Schubert of Poland with a 6.55m long jump and 50.16m javelin. The 800m was scheduled for 19:45 BST.
