Pallister upsets Ledecky in 400m freestyle at Pan Pacs

Lani Pallister beat nine-time Olympic gold medallist Katie Ledecky in the women's 400m freestyle at the Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, California, touching in 3:58.42 to Ledecky's 4:00.15 — a margin of 1.73 seconds. Pallister, 24, led from the early laps and held off Ledecky down the final 50 metres, despite finishing only fourth in the morning preliminaries. Ledecky had beaten Pallister in the 1500m earlier in the meet; the 800m, their decider, was still to come.
