Helen & Hard's Cabin Sande is framed by 18 whole uprooted spruce trees, roots intact

Norwegian studio Helen & Hard has completed Cabin Sande, a 112-square-metre retreat on a protected headland in Randaberg, Norway. Eighteen spruce trees — trunks, branches and root systems intact — were excavated, air-dried for eight months, digitally scanned and robotically milled to form structural columns fanning outward like a canopy. The firm designed the cabin over twelve years as its own retreat, Dezeen reported.
