Werro breaks 44-year-old championship record to win European 800m title, holding off Hodgkinson

Audrey Werro won the women's 800m at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, breaking a championship record untouched since 1982 — the longest-lived mark in the event's history. Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson took silver in 1:55.01, her 12th senior international medal. Werro had fallen in her semi-final and was reinstated before the final.
