Recording Academy rethinking Asian Pop Grammy category after BTS withdrawal

The Recording Academy is convening its full Board and Awards & Nominations Committee to review the new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category after BTS said on 29 July 2026 they would not submit music for the 69th Grammy Awards in February 2027. BTS stated: "We hope our music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language." CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said some Asian pop artists feel the category does not represent them as they wish, per Variety.
