Arthouse sector courts venture capital as traditional film finance contracts

Locarno Pro reported that the arthouse sector is courting venture capital to fill financing gaps left by contracting traditional sources, per Variety, 14 August 2026. Locarno Pro director Markus Duffner said the Step-In think tank now plans one to two years ahead because the industry moves too fast for longer horizons. The 79th Locarno Film Festival ran 5–15 August.
