Jersey's Nowacki, 18, wins Channel Islands' first European gold

Filip Nowacki, 18, won the 200m breaststroke at the 2026 European Aquatics Championships in Paris on 13 August — the first European gold for any Channel Islands athlete. He clocked 2:07.70, 0.08 seconds ahead of Olympic bronze-medallist Caspar Corbeau. Nowacki sat sixth at halfway before overhauling the Dutch swimmer in the final 50 metres. The world junior champion called the senior title "very special".
