Farage wins Clacton, but standards probe may trigger a second by-election

Nigel Farage took the Clacton by-election (a contest the major parties declined to contest) on 14 August 2026 with 63.3% of the vote. A parliamentary standards inquiry has resumed into his failure to declare a £5m gift from Reform donor Christopher Harborne. If it recommends a suspension, a recall petition could follow, forcing a second by-election within months.
