Robot Lawnmowers Settle on RTK Plus Lidar or vSLAM, The Verge's Five-Mower Test Shows

The Verge tested five robot lawnmowers from Segway, Mammotion, Husqvarna, Roborock, and Dreame on a three-quarter-acre South Carolina property, published August 13, 2026. Four of five use RTK satellite positioning with a secondary system — lidar or vSLAM (visual mapping) — to cover GPS gaps under trees and near buildings. Dreame alone uses lidar without RTK.
