Fungus on the pitch: Celta Vigo's La Liga opener postponed

Celta Vigo's 2026-27 La Liga opener against Osasuna, set for 16 August at Estadio de Balaidos, has been postponed after a fungal outbreak wrecked the playing surface. A La Liga inspection on 13 August found the pitch unfit for football. Both clubs and the RFEF agreed to the call. Poor weather had hampered repair efforts. A rescheduled date is yet to be announced.
