Fifty Canadian screen groups demand Carney reverse streamer spending cuts

Fifty Canadian screen organisations — including the Directors Guild of Canada, Writers Guild of Canada and the CMPA — signed an open letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney on 13 August 2026 demanding reversal of June amendments that could reduce or eliminate foreign streamers' spending obligations on Canadian content. The CRTC had raised contributions from 5% to 15%; the amendments propose a C$600 million annual pledge instead.
