Edinburgh Film Festival Reopens for 79th Edition as Admissions Climb 37.5%

EIFF, the world's longest continually running film festival, opened its 79th edition on 13 August 2026 in Edinburgh with 38 features and 21 world premieres. Admissions rose from 12,000 in 2024 to 16,500 in 2025, per Variety, while industry events nearly doubled from 13 to 25. More than 300 filmmakers attended in 2025. The run continues through 19 August.
