Andy Green sets first FIA hydrogen land speed record at 406 mph in JCB Hydromax

Wing Commander Andy Green OBE, the only person to break the sound barrier on land, set the first FIA-recognised World Land Speed Record for a hydrogen-powered vehicle on 12 August 2026. Driving the JCB Hydromax at the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, he reached 406.320 mph (653.909 kph). The FIA confirmed the run on 11 August. Green's outright record of 763.035 mph, set in ThrustSSC in 1997, stands.
