Walshe passes Smith in final 25 metres to win 400m IM gold in Paris

Ireland's Ellen Walshe overtook Britain's 16-year-old Amalie Smith in the final 25 metres to win women's 400m individual medley gold at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris. Smith, the reigning European junior champion, had led from the start before Walshe's closing freestyle proved decisive. The winning time is not yet confirmed. Walshe's entry time was 4:35.32.
