First direct evidence of Moche pottery workshops found at Cerro Mayal, Peru

Archaeologists from Peru's National University of San Marcos have uncovered moulds, potters' plates and adobe live-work structures at Cerro Mayal in the Chicama Valley — the first direct evidence of where the Moche civilisation (c. AD 100–800) produced its decorated pottery. Co-director Henry Tantaleán told Andina the finds emerged after digs resumed. New samples are at a US lab for dating. The site sits on sugar-company land, largely unprotected.
