Ryan Murphy to write and direct 'The Shards' series with three-season plan

Ryan Murphy is writing and directing a TV adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's novel "The Shards," set in 1981 Los Angeles, he told The Hollywood Reporter on 5 August 2026. Murphy revealed a three-season plan and told Ellis he has greenlight power. Casting has involved Richard Gere and Kaia Gerber. An earlier HBO deal with director Luca Guadagnino fell through.
