Houthis Kill Six in Bab al-Mandab Attack, Opening Second Shipping Chokepoint

On August 11, Yemen-based Houthis struck vessels in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, killing six aboard an Egyptian-owned ship — the first fatalities from such an attack. Commercial shipping now faces disruption at both ends of the Arabian Peninsula. Strait of Hormuz traffic has fallen to eight vessels daily, far below the pre-war norm of 130–140.
