Deadly Derecho and Tornadoes Strike Midwest, Killing Three

A derecho — a widespread, long-lived straight-line windstorm — swept four states on Aug 11, 2026, with winds hitting 99 mph. Three died: a four-year-old in Geneva Township, Indiana, crushed by a tree; another in Portage, Indiana, in a suspected weather-related house explosion; and a third in Roseville, Ohio, where flooding stranded responders. Tornadoes were confirmed near Chicago.
