Barkhad Abdi, Oscar-nominated for 'Captain Phillips,' leads the cast of 'Maalstroom,' a Dutch-Belgian co-production that has wrapped, Variety reported on 12 August 2026. Director Teddy Cherim wrote the role of Bahdoon specifically for Abdi. Graniet Film produces with Czar Film & TV; Paradiso plans a Benelux release next year. Jim Deddes and Tenzing Woing co-star.
