Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures land global rights to Makoto Shinkai's next anime feature

Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have acquired global distribution rights to Makoto Shinkai's untitled next feature film, covering all territories outside Asia, with India grouped alongside the Western markets (The Hollywood Reporter, 12 August 2026). No title, plot details, or release timing have been disclosed. The deal repeats the distribution path of Shinkai's previous film Suzume, which Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures handled jointly in 2022–23.
