Cabinet greenlights $68m for Oranga Tamariki system replacement, later phases unfunded

Cabinet has approved $68m to start replacing Oranga Tamariki's 25-year-old case management system, with a design contract due next month. Later phases remain unfunded. A 2024 Cabinet paper warned the agency cannot absorb further costs without cutting services to children. Budget 2026 gave Oranga Tamariki $180m, but none for technology upgrades.
