Martinenghi wins 100m breaststroke as Ramsay-Peaty suffers first European Championships defeat

Nicolo Martinenghi won the men's 100m breaststroke at the 2026 European Aquatics Championships in Paris in 58.58 seconds. Adam Ramsay-Peaty, the 31-year-old world record holder (56.88), finished fifth in 59.10 — his first-ever loss at a European Aquatics Championships. Ivan Kozhakin took silver, Simone Cerasuolo bronze. Ramsay-Peaty's time was 0.55 seconds faster than at the Commonwealth Games.
