Shanahan breaks British record for 200m backstroke gold at European Championships

Katie Shanahan won 200m backstroke gold at the 2026 European Aquatics Championships in Paris, breaking the British record. The 21-year-old Scot touched faster than her previous best of 2:07.45 from 2023. Five weeks earlier she took Commonwealth silver in Glasgow in 2:08.65 behind Australia's Jenna Forrester. In Paris, she went quicker and turned silver into gold.
