HBO Max launches "Phase II" Emmy campaign format with in-character Hacks stage show

HBO Max staged "Deborah Vance & Friends & Enemies LIVE!" at Los Angeles's Fonda Theatre, a sold-out one-night stage performance by Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder in character. HBO Max described it as, to its knowledge, the first "Phase II" event of its kind — the second push for Emmy votes after nominations. The final Hacks season drew a record 24 nominations.
