Domestic summer box office crosses $4 billion, second post-pandemic milestone

Domestic summer box office — the United States and Canada — crossed $4 billion on 10 August 2026, per Rentrak data reported by Variety. Only the second post-pandemic summer to hit the mark after 2023's $4.09 billion. Rentrak's Paul Dergarabedian says the season is on pace to rank as the highest-grossing domestic summer since 2019, which reached $4.3 billion. The summer frame accounts for roughly 40% of annual domestic ticket sales.
