Australian Telescope Maps Universe's Magnetic Fields at Record Scale

Australian radio astronomers have created the largest-ever maps of magnetic fields threading through the cosmic web—the gas filaments binding galaxies together. Using the ASKAP telescope, researchers traced these fields across millions of light-years by analyzing radiation from spinning electrons. The maps are five times larger than all previous ones combined and reveal how magnetism shapes cosmic structures, offering clues about where these fields originated in the early Universe.
