Government Sues to Break Up Live Nation, the Giant Company That Controls Concert Tickets

The U.S. Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against Live Nation Entertainment, asking a court to split up the company. The lawsuit is also supported by 29 state governments and Washington D.C. The government argues that Live Nation has too much power over the concert industry. The company owns concert venues (the buildings where concerts happen), manages artists, runs the ticketing system (where people buy tickets), and controls the resale market (where people buy and sell tickets from other buyers). Think of it like one company owning the stadium, the players, the box office, and the ticket scalper outside — they control everything. The government wants to force the company to sell off some of its businesses so other companies can compete fairly. This is a bigger legal action than previous attempts to regulate the company, which happened after Live Nation bought Ticketmaster back in 2010.
