On Running Uses Spray Paint to Build Shoe Uppers, Skipping Traditional Stitching

On Running's new Cloudmonster 3 shoe uses a spray process that applies polymer directly onto a mold, replacing sewn and glued construction. The single-piece upper distributes weight more evenly and uses less material. The approach requires expensive specialized equipment, but could eventually make reshoring production economically practical.
