Europe Plans Arctic Cable Route to Bypass Middle East Shipping Lane

The European Union is funding a $2 billion undersea cable through the Arctic to connect Europe and Asia. The cable would run under the ocean via Canada or across the North Pole, avoiding shipping lanes in the Red Sea where cables were damaged last year. Planning begins in 2026. The EU allocated $9 million for initial work on the project.
