U.S.-Saudi Nuclear Deal Skips Key Safety Rules, Lawmakers Object

The Trump administration signed a nuclear cooperation deal with Saudi Arabia on July 22, 2026. The deal does not ban Saudi Arabia from enriching uranium — a process that can produce fuel for either power plants or weapons. It also skips extra international inspections. Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) said Congress should require those safeguards, as the U.S. did with a similar UAE deal. Congress has 90 days to review.
