Burkina Faso's Leader Cracks Down on Muslim Scholars

The Timbuktu Institute, a research group in Senegal, says the quiet agreement between Burkina Faso's military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, and the country's Muslim community has fallen apart. Traoré said "the battle has begun" against what he calls foreign-backed religious extremism. This follows a new law on religion, the arrest of two prominent prayer leaders, and a plan to bring home 800,000 students studying Islamic law abroad.
