Half of England and Wales Lives Too Far From a Life-Saving Device

A British Heart Foundation study finds 35 million people in England and Wales — over half the population — live too far from a public defibrillator, a device that shocks the heart back into rhythm during cardiac arrest. Over 16 million would need to walk more than 1km round trip to reach one. Early use can more than double survival odds.
