Meta's AI Models Help National Labs Process Massive Image Collections
Four national labs — Lawrence Berkeley, Argonne, Brookhaven, and Oak Ridge — are using Meta's free AI models, SAM 3 and DINOv3, in a system called SYNAPS-I. The software automatically identifies and outlines objects in scientific images, a task that used to take experts weeks per dataset. New lab cameras now capture 100,000 images per second.
