Northland council leader calls scrapping of iwi agreements 'despicable'

A parliamentary committee wants to scrap agreements that let iwi and councils work together on resource management. Northland Regional Council chair Pita Tipene said no one asked him first, calling it "despicable" and "cowardly." Minister Chris Bishop said new, narrower agreements with iwi would replace them.
