Slow-moving Gulf storm threatens days of flooding across four states

A tropical depression — a large spinning storm weaker than a hurricane — is crawling at 3 mph along the Gulf coast. Instead of hitting once, it may hug the shoreline for days, spreading up to 4 feet of ocean water pushed ashore, 8 inches of rain, and possible tornadoes across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.
