Guyana ferry sinks and the passenger list can't be trusted

The MV Barima sank off Guyana on July 18, 2026, killing at least two. Rescuers pulled 67 people from the water, yet only 35 were on the ship's passenger list, which counted 133 aboard. Prime Minister Mark Phillips called the gap "deeply concerning." The captain and first engineer tested positive for cannabis and are in custody. A criminal investigation is underway.
